Local Vancouver Breweries: Fuggles Beer Co

Welcome to our first Brewery in Focus Post. We will be trying out different Vancouver Breweries & Distilleries and checking out what they have to offer. Our first review up, we will be covering Fuggles Beer Co.

Fuggles Beer Co. located in Richmond BC is a fan favourite for many beer enthusiasts. Fuggles Beer Co is know for having board games and almost all of their beers named after Video game or anime theme backgrounds. They used to have actual video games in the bar area but since has been removed (unfortunately). You still have the option of a pinball machine though. As a compromise they do feature now a heated outdoor patio with some games outside too. Perfect for larger groups looking to have a good time. We can see the patio being the a hit spot for parties in the early spring and summer nights.

Their beers are quiet fresh and known for using unique ingredients. Today we had four samples.

We had a tasting flight to sample what they currently had on tap. We went on a Tuesday and they had tasting flights for only $2 a taster. $8 dollars for a whole tasting flight is very reasonable.

We selected the following above:

• The Mango Street Ale

• Zoomies Hazy IPA

• Mocha Stout

• Maelstrom IPA

The Mango Street Ale: A solid wheat ale, aromas and flavours of mango. Simple and straight forward. Great for hot summer days and still light enough to a couple. Great for a summer Vancouver wedding by the beach.

Zoomies Hazy IPA: A solid mouthfeel IPA, not overly hoppy on the nose, more on the citrus side. The beer also has a juiciness to it making it smooth on the palate. You could easily do a couple of these in a night. The alcohol percentage isn't too high so its not overly punishing for enjoying a couple.

Coconut Mocha Stout: A solid coffee based stout. Lots of coffee and chocolate notes, less on the coconut. Solid mouthfeel with some creaminess. Likely a little heavy for most guests at a wedding or corporate event, but nice to enjoy to pair with dessert.

Maelstrom IPA: The heaviest of the IPA on the tasting list today. Strong hop flavours on the nose and palate. Crystal clear and straight to the point. Crisp and refreshing.

Fuggles Beer Co. also has some solid food options available for Happy hour and regular menu. The menu has many food items from D Original Sausage Haus. A highly recommended local meat and deli store in Richmond BC. Although we did not get to try the food on this trip we will be back to have more beers paired with the meats.

For our next visit we will be booking one of the brewery tours to get a better idea and flavour for the operation. The tasting room allows you to see inside where your beer was just made.

Overall it was a short but sweet trip to Fuggles, when we arrived on Tuesday night the place was relatively empty but started to fill up fast. We recommend going for their Happy hour and to go on Tuesday night to get their flights for $2 a taster. Come with a group of 4 to 6 people so you can take part in some of their board and bar games. Summer time will be awesome out on their patio with outdoor games. We hoped your enjoyed reading.
